It began with 45 young people with disabilities playing one night a week on a dirt infield at Loyalist College.
Today it has 145 people age four to 50 with games operating over four nights a week at the fully accessible ballpark known as the Field of Ability, located at Parkdale Veterans Park on Sidney Street in Belleville.
On Sunday, Challenger Baseball played their final games of the season with all 14 of their teams playing one last game in 2024 culminating with the Senior Elites handily defeating the Belleville Police Service in the annual grand finale. (The score is being withheld to protect the innocent.)
Organizer Lisa Chesher says not only has the league expanded, but so has the age of the participants.
Chesher adds the players come from the greater Quinte area.
Challenger Baseball is also under the umbrella of the Jays Care Foundation.
