A man with no fixed address faces theft, mischief, and weapons charges after being involved in two disturbances Wednesday in Belleville.
First, police responded to a North Front Street business shortly after 7 p.m. after staff reported a theft of merchandise. Police were able to identify a suspect but the man had left the business prior to their arrival.
Then at 9:15 p.m., a business in the Downtown District called police saying they had given free food to a man who’d asked for help only to have him return to complain about the food and spit on staff.
He then proceeded to smash out a window and damage a vehicle with a knife.
It turns out the man was the same person suspected in the theft on North Front Street earlier.
He was held for a bail hearing.
