Prince Edward County has officially decided to apply for funding as part of round two of the federal Housing Accelerator Fund.
During Tuesday’s council meeting, councillors voted to direct staff to submit the application for second round funding, prior to the September 13th deadline.
Second round applications are open to municipalities who applied for funding in the first wave, but had their original application denied.
The motion passed unanimously, without debate. The county is applying for $9.6 million to help speed up the creation of affordable housing, especially multi-residential development.
Council has accepted that 4 residential units will be allowed “as of right” on any property in a settlement zone that’s outside of a Heritage District.
