A 15-year-old male student has been charged after police responded to a weapons call at a local high school in Belleville.
Belleville police were called to Centennial Secondary School on Thursday just before 1:50 p.m. after they received a report of a student threatening another student with a gun earlier in the day.
Officers went to the school, conducted an investigation, and arrested the student.
The accused, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and held for a bail hearing on charges of pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and criminal harassment.
During their investigation, police located the weapon and determined it was a pellet gun that was designed to replicate a real handgun.
In a letter to parents, Centennial Secondary School principal Andrew Ross said that Belleville police responded to the incident “off school property during the high school lunch break.”

Good Morning Charger Community:
Student safety is always our first priority at Centennial Secondary School. In this regard, I am writing to inform you about an incident involving our school.
Yesterday afternoon, Belleville Police were at our school in response to a situation that occurred off school property during the high school lunch break.
I take the safety and wellbeing of students seriously and investigate all reports thoroughly. Students and members of the school community were safe at all times.
Your child may have seen police at the school while they were interacting with a student. I recognize that this could be a difficult experience to process. Support for students is available for anyone who requests it. They can ask for assistance through their classroom teacher, in our Guidance office, or the main office.
I am unable to provide any more information due to a police investigation. Thank you for your understanding.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.
Sincerely,
Andrew Ross
Principal
