The local unemployment rate ticked up in August.
Statistics Canada reports the rate for the Belleville-Quinte West Census Metropolitan Area, which includes Belleville, Quinte West, Deseronto-Tyendinaga and Stirling-Rawdon, increased to 5.9% in August, up from July’s 5.8%.
The national unemployment rate increased two-tenths of a point to 6.6% in August as the economy added a modest 22,000 jobs.
Ontario’s rate jumped from 6.7% to 7.1%.
