The Special Investigations Unit will not be charging an Ontario Provincial Police officer following an investigation into an incident in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory earlier this year.
On May 5, Tyendinaga Police Service (TPS) officers and an OPP officer seconded to the TPS, attended a home to remove an unwanted male from the residence.
The 24-year-old man had threatened the occupant and was prohibited by an undertaking from being there.
In the basement of the home, officers became involved in an interaction with the man.
He was eventually handcuffed and placed in a police cruiser.
In hospital he was diagnosed with several facial fractures.
On his assessment of the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino has determined there are no reasonable grounds to believe that the OPP officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the man’s arrest and injuries.
