Belleville police responded to 303 calls for service from 5 a.m. on August 30, 2024 to 5 a.m. on September 3, 2024.
Possession of a weapon and uttering threats
On August 30, 2024 at 4:31p.m., Belleville police responded to a business on Bridge St. West after receiving reports that a male had brandished a fillet knife while uttering death threats to a customer. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. Police spoke to the victim and witnesses and through their investigation, they were able to identify the suspect. Later in the evening at 10 p.m., police located the suspect and arrested him without incident. Police have charged a 17-year-old male with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats. He was released on an undertaking. Police will not be releasing the name of the accused as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Assault
On August 30, 2024 at 1:50 p.m., Belleville police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a residence in the city’s west end. Police attended and spoke to the involved parties. Police learned that a female had been physically assaulted by her male partner. As a result, police arrested and charged a 31-year-old Belleville resident with assault. He was held for a bail hearing.
Stolen Vehicle
On August 30, 2024 at 9:51 a.m., a resident on Sidney St. contacted the Belleville Police Service to report that sometime overnight their 2022 white Toyota Highlander with Ontario plate DCKP 586 was stolen from their residence. Police are continuing to investigate the theft.
Assault
On August 31, 2024 at 9 p.m., Belleville police responded to Front Street regarding a fight between a male and female. Initial reports by witnesses indicated that the male was attempting to steal property belonging to the female. Officers arrived on scene, spoke to the involved parties and while doing so, observed that the female had suffered minor injuries from the assault. As a result, 55-year-old Michael Brown of Belleville was arrested and charged with assault. Brown was released on an undertaking with a court date in October.
Theft and shoplifting
On August 31, 2024 at 4:30 p.m., Belleville police were called to an east end business regarding two females who stole a purse belonging to a customer and then proceeded to steal a cart full of items from the store prior to leaving in a vehicle. Responding officers attended the business and through their investigation were able to identify the two females. Police contacted both females. Both females turned themselves in later in the evening. As a result, 26-year-old Shelby Zielski-Thibault and 36-year-old Katelyn Cooke, both of Belleville, were charged with two counts of theft under $5000. The pair were released on undertakings with a court date in October.
Assault
On August 31, 2024 at 9:17 a.m., Belleville police responded to a residence in Thurlow regarding an intoxicated male who was causing a disturbance. Officers arrived on scene and spoke to the involved parties. Police learned that the intoxicated male had assaulted the female resulting in minor injuries. As result of the investigation, a 57-year-old Madoc resident was charged with assault and released on an undertaking with a court date in September. The name of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
Two people shot with a Pellet gun
On September 1, 2024 at 3:40 p.m., Belleville police and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics responded to the Bayshore Trail just south of Dundas St after receiving reports that two males had been shot with a pellet gun. Upon arrival, police learned that one male had been shot in the chest several times but it didn’t break the skin and the second male had been shot in the neck, chest and several times in his left arm. The second victim was transported to Kingston General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both victims remain uncooperative with police. The suspect is described as a heavy-set female with two dogs and driving a newer model SUV. Police are continuing the investigation. Traffic Enforcement
On September 2, 2024 at 9:09 a.m., an officer was monitoring the speed of traffic on Sidney St. N when the officer observed a vehicle travelling at 129km/h in a posted 60km/h zone. As a result, a 29-year-old Belleville male was charged with stunt driving. He was issued a summons for a traffic court date in October. His driver’s licence was suspended automatically for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
