A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place for the new Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services ambulance base located in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory on Tuesday.
Hastings County was joined by Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, along with local dignitaries and members of the public for the ceremony.
In February, county council approved Hastings/Quinte Paramedic Services establishing an ambulance service on Mohawk Territory in partnership with the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
“The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, along with the Emergency Health Services Branch (EHSB) of the Ministry of Health, engaged with Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services to support the operation of land ambulance services on their territory 24 hours a day, seven days a week operating out of the Mohawk Fire Hall,” the county said in a press release.
Ontario’s Ministry of Health will be providing 100% of the operating costs each year with a proposed contract for service in place for a minimum of eight years.
