At first glance, building activity in the City of Belleville appears to be much lower in August than it was in 2023, though it is not as much of a difference as it appears.
Last month, the city issued 56 permits worth $9.9 million while there were 53 permits worth just over $53 million in August of last year.
However, one permit in August 2023 accounted for $35.3 million as construction began on a new long-term care home on Sidney Street between Bell Boulevard and Tracey Street.
Year-to-date construction activity continues to lag behind 2023.
The city reports $73.4 million worth of construction activity through August 31 of this year, down from $165 million over the first eight months of 2023.
