Officers from Lennox and Addington OPP handed out a large number of fines for distracted driving while on the scene of a tanker truck rollover on Hwy 401 on Saturday.
The original accident occurred at roughly 1:20 in the morning, and had closed one of the eastbound lanes as emergency crews worked to clear the road and restore traffic.
Officers say that during the 12 hours the lane was closed, they handed out 18 tickets to drivers suspected of filming the accident scene while they were driving past the area.
Each of the tickets issued came with a $615 fine.
Police are reminding people to stay off their phones and focus on the road.
