The Wellington Dukes are off to a strong start to their hockey season, with a victory in their first pre-season game.
The Dukes edged the Niagara Falls Canucks 1-0 at the Gale Centre in Niagara Falls.
Zander Latreille scored for the Dukes.
The Canucks launched out of the gate with aggressive first and second periods, taking more than double the shots on net than the Dukes did in those periods. The Dukes held on, with goaltender Jack Lisson saving all 38 shots taken against him across all three periods.
In the third, the Dukes came back with a vengeance, surging and turning the tables on the Canucks, before Latreille found the back of the net with only 12 seconds left on the clock, winning the game.
Wellington plays again today, facing the Aurora Tigers at the Gale Centre at 5 p.m.
