County Transit is adding two fixed bus stops in Picton to make it easier for residents to access grocers, commercial and recreation establishments in the town.
Service in the area was previously offered on demand only.
The bus will now pick up and drop off passengers as part of the fixed route at signed stops near the corner of Loyalist Parkway and George Wright Boulevard.
These stops are serviced by the fixed route Monday to Friday, five times westbound (toward Belleville) and five times eastbound (toward Picton).
Both bus stops are located on Loyalist Parkway, approximately 50 metres away from the intersection with George Wright Boulevard. Transit users waiting at these stops must stand on the sidewalk beside the sign so that the bus driver knows to stop for the pick-up.
The first westbound bus going toward Belleville comes just past 6:45 a.m., with the last Picton-bound bus passing at around 6:30 p.m.

Additionally, through September 8, the westbound stop will be serviced on weekends by the Picton Summer Loop. Buses leave Metro on the half hour on Friday night from 5 p.m. to 12 midnight, Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 12 midnight, and Sundays from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
As always, county residents who do not live within walking distance of the fixed route may contact County Transit to be connected to the fixed route. If your pick-up spot is within 1 km of the route, the bus may veer off the route to pick you up. If your pick-up spot is further away, you can request an on-demand bus to bring you to the nearest fixed route bus stop. This addition is part of efforts to improve the current transit system.
Over the next year, longer term planning will look at the future of public transit to come up with a five-to-ten-year plan that meets the needs of the growing and evolving community.
