A Belleville man is facing a host of charges, following a dangerous traffic investigation Sunday evening.
Around 6:30 p.m., Central Hastings OPP responded to Highway 62, near Public School Road in Madoc Township.
A fast-moving pick-up truck was crossing the centre line and swerving onto the shoulder.
When officers tried to stop the vehicle, it speed off, accelerating over 150 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
As the driver was heading directly toward the ongoing investigation into an earlier fatal collision in the area, the speeding pick-up posed a serious safety risk.
The driver eventually pulled over and stopped, with officers locating cannabis and alcohol in the vehicle.
40-year-old Josiah Stewart was charged with the following:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drug
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Dangerous operation
- Flight from a peace officer
- Driving with cannabis readily available
- Having care and control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available
- Having care and control of a vehicle with liquor readily available
- Stunt driving – excessive speed
Stewart has a September 12th court date in Belleville.
