The Ontario NDP have named their candidate for the Bay of Quinte riding for next month’s by-election
Amanda Robertson will carry the orange banner through to September 19.
Robertson is a school board trustee representing Belleville/Thurlow, and vice chair of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.
The party says Robertson is an active community member with strong local roots and will take action on the big issues facing people in Bay of Quinte, from the shortage of family doctors and unacceptable ER wait times, to the urgent need for new housing that families can actually afford.
“I’m thrilled that Amanda is stepping up to serve the people of Bay of Quinte,” said Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles. “She has the experience and energy to fight for what matters, and I’m excited about the campaign ahead.”
Robertson is the treasurer for the John Howard Society of Belleville. She lives in Belleville with her three children and husband, who is a local family doctor.
“People in Bay of Quinte deserve health care they can rely on, homes they can afford and schools that set kids up for success,” added Robertson. “I’m running to bring our local solutions to the table, give our communities a stronger voice and to get results for working people.”
“Doug Ford has spent six years putting his friends and insiders first, while things have only gotten harder for everyday working people,” concluded Stiles. “This by-election is our chance to send him a message and elect a strong new voice to represent communities here in Bay of Quinte.”
Robertson’s nomination will be confirmed by local members at a nomination meeting Friday August 23, 2024
Election Day is Thursday, September 19.
