Motor vehicle collision involving motorcycle
On August 16, 2024 at 3:46 p.m., Belleville police, fire and paramedics were called to Dundas Street East and John Street regarding a collision involving two cars and a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle suffered minor physical injuries as a result of the collision. Following the police investigation, one of the car drivers, an 81-year-old Belleville man was charged with following too closely and issued a Provincial Offence Notice.
Break, Enter and Theft charges
On August 16, 2024 at 10:45 p.m., Belleville police were called to a commercial yard on Airport Parkway regarding a vehicle that was observed entering the yard without permission and was believed to have been involved in recent thefts. Officers attended the area and located four males who were associated with the vehicle. Police learned that the suspect vehicle had a quantity of stolen property inside which was from the yard. As a result of the police investigation, all four males were arrested and charged. Belamoric Ganyi, 40 years old and 21-year-old Daniel Ganyi, both of Whitby, 20-year-old Jozsef Kalocsai of Pickering and 30-year-old Imre Lakatos of Scarborough were charged with break, enter and theft and possession of stolen property. Lakatos was additionally charged with disobeying a court order. All four were released on an undertaking with a court date in September.
Impaired Driving
On August 17, 2024 at 9:55 p.m., Belleville police received a report of erratic driving as the vehicle was swerving all over the road and nearly struck a utility pole while in the north end of the city. Police located and stopped the vehicle as it was entering the on-ramp onto Hwy 401. Officers spoke with the female driver. As part of the investigation, an approved screening device was administered and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the Belleville Police Service for further testing. As a result of the investigation, 37-year-old Christine Cattoor of Kingston was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus. She was released on an undertaking with a court date in September.
Breach of Undertaking
On August 18, 2024 at 7:50 p.m., Belleville police were called to an address on Station St. after receiving a call that a male had attended the residence in an attempt to retrieve his dog from a female who resided at the residence. During the investigation, officers learned that the male was currently on release conditions not to be at the address and not to communicate with the female. As a result, the 47-year-old male of no fixed address was arrested and charged with two counts of breaching an officer-In charge undertaking. He was held for a bail hearing.
