The general manager of the Quinte Hills Golf Course says she has been blown away by the support, following a pair of vandalism sprees.
Donna Richardson spoke to Quinte News following damage to the Stockdale area course, on the evenings of August 2 and August 7.
“They destroyed two carts, drove on almost every single green that we have, break checked on them. They were in every single bunker. We have 19 garbage cans out there, I think they destroyed 12 of them and they’re like 500 bucks a piece. Signs that say hole number 1,2,3 whatever, they had a couple of them completely flattened and on the ground.”
A well cover and ball washers were also destroyed.
Nicholson says a lot of the expenses they will incur in the cleanup are chemicals and labour force.
Although she did not provide an exact estimate, she says it will be in the tens of thousands of dollars.
She says to hurt the business more, they received a large number of negative Google reviews, which she says is meant to hurt the course’s reputation. She believes it was done by the vandals.
Nicholson says as difficult as it has been, the community support has been incredible, including Timber Ridge Golf Course offering equipment and a labour force to assist.
Quinte West OPP are investigating the incidents, but there is no word whether the two vandalisms are connected.
