Belleville police responded to 68 calls for service over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. on August 12, 2024 to 5 a.m. on August 13, 2024.
Fraud and Possession of Stolen Property
On August 12, 2024 at 5:32 p.m., Belleville police responded to a business in the city’s north end regarding persons who were attempting to commit a fraud inside the store. Upon arrival, police spoke to staff and learned that three female parties had attended the business and are believed to be part of an organized fraud ring committing frauds at a number of similar locations throughout Ontario. Members of the Belleville Police Service’s Criminal Investigative Division attended and assisted with the investigation into the three parties. As a result of the police investigation, a 35-year-old female from Brampton and a 24-year-old female from Scarborough were arrested and charged with possession of stolen property under $5000, possess proceeds of crime over $5000 and fraud. Both parties were held in custody for a bail hearing.
Additionally, a 15-year-old female from Brampton was charged in relation to this investigation. She was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property under $5000 and proceeds of crime over $5000. The young person, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act was released on an undertaking with a court date in September.
Arrested on Warrant
On August 12, 2024 at 7:32 p.m., Belleville police were called to an address in the city’s west end regarding an unwanted person. Upon their arrival, police identified the female and learned that she was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for possession of stolen property over $5000. As a result, police arrested 33-year-old Angie Nolan of no fixed address on the strength of the warrant. She was held for a bail hearing.
