We can now confirm what’s long been rumoured when it comes to industrial activity in Belleville.
The company which makes the popular snack Hawkins Cheezies, W.T. Hawkins Inc., has plans to build
a new plant in the city’s Northeast Industrial Park.
Monday, Belleville council will be asked to approve an agreement extending the timeline for construction of a new building to March 30 of 2027.
A previous agreement, signed in 2021, stated the new plant would be ready by the end of March this year.
The new Hawkins plant is not to be less than 51,250 square feet. The city has the right to repurchase the land if the timeline is not met.
W.T. Hawkins Inc. recently celebrated its 75th anniversary. The company continues to make Cheezies at its South Front Street location.
