East Region OPP have reported that over 1000 charges were laid over the civic holiday long weekend, as they conducted a province-wide traffic safety campaign.
Officers also responded to four road fatalities and one off-road vehicle death over the long weekend.
The traffic safety campaign focused on aggressive, distracted or impaired drivers, along with both drivers and passengers who weren’t wearing seat belts.
Over the long weekend, 1397 charges were laid by East Region OPP officers, including 822 charges for speeding, 23 stunt driving charges, 57 impaired driving charges, eight distracted driving charges, 91 seatbelt infractions, and eight move over law violations.
The OPP are reminding the motoring public about the role they play in reducing the number of lives lost on roads.
