Charges have been laid after a motorist reported what they believed to be an impaired driver to police.
Belleville police received a call shortly before 1 a.m. Friday about a driver on North Front Street.
The caller alleged the driver failed to stop at several red lights and was observed striking the curb of the roadway as it headed south.
Then, as the vehicle travelled through a red light at the intersection of College Street, it came within a few feet of striking a pedestrian.
Officers caught up to the suspect vehicle in the area of Church Street and arrested the motorist.
A 45-year-old Stirling woman is charged with impaired driving and having over 80 mgs.
In addition to the drunk driving charges, the vehicle the motorist was operating was impounded for a week and her licence was suspended for 90 days.
She was released with a court date on September 19, 2024.
Belleville police remind the public of Campaign 911, a Canada-wide effort to encourage the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911.
Impaired driving is the number one cause of criminal death in Canada according the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Canada.
