Boat break-in suspect nabbed
A 40-year-old Belleville man was arrested after police were called to Meyers Pier around noon, Sunday, for a report of someone breaking into a boat. A family member of a boat owner observed an unknown man walk onto the docked boat and start to rummage around. When the man left the scene, the family member followed and called police to report the incident. Officers arrived a short time later and arrested the suspect nearby. He was charged with break and enter. The man was also found to be on conditions from a previous probation order and subsequently charged with breaching those conditions and held for a show cause hearing on Monday.
Weekend warrant wrap-up
Several people were picked up on Belleville Police Service warrants for various offences over the weekend.
Early Saturday, a call to an area of the city’s west end landed a wanted 21-year-old Belleville man in custody.
Around 1:30 a.m. officers were dispatched to the intersection of Catharine and Cedar streets for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, one of the males involved was identified as being wanted on a warrant from Belleville police for an assault stemming from a previous incident. Chris Gallant, 21, of Belleville was arrested and released a short time later on an undertaking. He was given a September 12, 2024 court date to face the charge.
Later in the evening, around 7:30 p.m., officers on general patrol near the intersection of Bridge and Church streets observed a female wanted on Belleville police warrants for arson and failing to comply with a release order. Jaquelin Bloor, 32, was arrested without incident and held for a show cause hearing.
A couple of hours later on Pinnacle Street, a 28-year-old who tried to fib his way out of a traffic stop was arrested on a committal warrant and other offences. Officers on patrol conducted a routine traffic stop around 9:30 p.m. During the investigation, the driver provided police with a false name. Shortly after confirming his true identity, he was found to be wanted on a committal warrant for breaching several release conditions. The driver was also charged with possession of a controlled substance. Arrested, charged and held for a show cause hearing was Braeden Turner, 28, of Belleville.
