A young Belleville athlete will compete to be one of Ontario’s Fastest Kids this weekend in Toronto.
Acadia Crozier is one of 16 U13 athletes (eight female, eight male) who have qualified for the Ontario’s Fastest Kids finals being held Saturday at the U20 Open & Para Track and Field Championship.
She qualified for the 80-metre final race through the Royal Canadian Legion: District G (Brockville), one of eight qualifying races that were held across the province over the past two months.
Canadian Olympians Zoe Sherar and Derek Drouin will cheer on the competitors and help hand out awards at the finale race.
The Ontario’s Fastest Kids program is provided through Athletics Canada’s 2024 Athletics for All grant program.
This program is designed to remove barriers and increase sport participation for two targeted populations: newcomers to Canada and athletes with disabilities. This is made possible with the support of the Government of Canada.
The last Ontario Fastest Kids competition was held in 2012.
It included Myles Misener-Daley, who won the boys’ competition and went on to run for UCLA and most recently represented Team Canada at the World Athletics Relay Championship in the Bahamas; Brianna Gayle, who won the girls’ competition and went on to compete in the NCAA; and Ibrahim Ayorinde, who competed for Princeton in the NCAA and also donned the Maple Leaf to compete at the World Athletics Relay Championship in the Bahamas.
