The Wooler Road railway overpass is deteriorating quickly and experts say it needs to be replaced within the next couple of years.
At Wednesday’s Quinte West council meeting Councillor David O’Neill asked why the bridge’s replacement budget went from $5.4 million to a projected $12 to $15 million.
Director of Public Works Chris Angelo said both CP and CN wanted room to expand the number of tracks they were using.
A tentative agreement on cost-sharing is in place with CP but not with CN Rail.
“I envision that the municipality may be going to the Transportation Board to get a ruling from them with regard to cost-sharing with the railway authority.”
Mayor Jim Harrison reminded council that the city had had issues regarding cost-sharing with CN Rail on other projects in the past.
Updates on the project will be coming to council in the near future.
