Staff and council in Quinte West have been hard at work preparing version one of the city’s operating and capital budgets for next year.
Wednesday council approved a budget timeline and public engagement strategy leading up to the approval of budgets in January.
Mayor Jim Harrison told council what he thought a tax increase should look like.
“Listen I think we’ve got to be down below, well below 5 % and it’s going to be tough. It’s going to be very difficult but that’s my feeling. People can’t afford it and they’re finding it difficult. So yes I’m not giving you (council) direction that’s just me.”
Quinte Wests’ 2024 budget featured a 6.7% tax increase on single family homes.
