Quinte Health says its hospitals are experiencing a significant surge in patient volumes and that the trend is typically seen during the winter respiratory/flu season.
In a release, Quinte Health says the “unseasonal surge” is leading to significant wait times.
Some of the factors listed for the wait times are staffing levels, inpatient units being over capacity, strain on long-term care and homecare resources and patients being seen on the severity of their condition.
For those who have a non-emergency and have access to a family doctor or nurse practitioner, it is asked that you reach out to them first before heading to the Emergency Department (ED).
When it comes to residents without a family doctor or nurse practitioner, Quinte Health says you should evaluate other options for care that can help reduce the strain on the ED.
