The Norris Whitney Bridge, commonly known as the Bay Bridge in Belleville, was closed to traffic for two and a half hours Monday night as police, paramedics, and firefighters came to the aid of a woman in distress.
Belleville police were notified about a woman in crisis on the bridge just after 9 p.m. and responded along with firefighters and Hastings Quinte Paramedic Services.
There they found a distraught 35-year-old woman sitting on a light standard near the top of the bridge.
A Crisis Negotiating Team managed to resolve the crisis after lengthy discussions.
The woman was taken into custody under the Mental Health Act and taken to Belleville General Hospital for treatment.
