A Belleville woman is watching and waiting for word from her husband after the Grenadine Islands were hit by Hurricane Beryl.
Thirty-three-year-old Emily Edwards, along with her three boys, came back to Belleville in mid-June to visit family, while her husband Dwayne Edwards (Grenadian Canadian) stayed in Carriacou, which is an island off Grenada (north east of South America).
On Monday, the eye of Hurricane Beryl hit their community as a Category 4 storm (209-251 km/h).

Edwards says the shelter he said he was going to was destroyed, however, their home miraculously is intact. She says footage she has seen paints a dark picture of damage on the islands.
“I met him at Matt and Joe’s. I went to Loyalist to become a nurse and one night at the bar I looked up on that infamous stage, I saw him up there. We’ve been together ever since.”
“My husband’s family originally is from Grenada. He’s considered a Grenadian national. I’m a nurse here, my husband is retired out of the Canadian Forces. We said we were young and healthy and we have an opportunity to go on this adventure. We made the move last January.”
“Close to the same time he sent a video. He had told me that our back gate and the big wooden gates had fallen down. So I asked him if he could send me video or a picture and he did. That really was the last thing that I heard from him at 10 a.m.”
