The Executive Director of the Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward (HSHPE) is retiring.
Marilyn Lawrie has served in the position since 2020, leading the organization through its rebranding and the building of its new shelter, completed in 2022.
Her retirement is effective October 1.
Prior to her joining HSHPE, Lawrie served in management positions at Stirling Festival Theatre, Quinte Ballet School of Canada, Downtown Belleville Improvement Area, and Opera Lyra Ottawa.
Lawrie says she made the difficult decision after months of consideration.
“It is with very mixed feelings that I depart from our Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward, says Lawrie. “The past 3½ years have been a formidable time of new partnerships, new initiatives and a new shelter designed and built with animal care and welfare in mind. I am looking forward to my new role as a ‘retiree’ (gardening, research and music are in my future) but will always be a friend, supporter and advocate of HSHPE.”
Greg Sudds, HSHPE board chair says, “I can’t say enough about Marilyn and her many accomplishments at HSHPE over the past few years. “Her charm, energy and dedication will be greatly missed, but we look forward to welcoming Marilyn back as a volunteer in the future.”
A search is currently underway for Lawrie’s replacement.
