The City of Belleville has written Premier Doug Ford in a plea for housing revenue.
Mayor Neil Ellis begins the letter by thanking the province for assistance in March, when it awarded the municipality $1.24 million from the Building Faster Fund.
Provincial legislation around housing includes Bill 108, Bill 109, and Bill 23.
Ellis also highlighted the major municipal investments in the Northeast Industrial Park and funding for a $55 million sewage pump station and conveyance system. Ellis says the infrastructure work would lead to land opening up for 24,000 new residents. Ellis says municipal staff must consider lost revenue which would have been invested in additional infrastructure for more homes.
It has identified that these costs resulted in lost revenue of just over $1 million.
The letter requests the province create a funding program to make municipalities whole for future lost revenue as a result of Bill 108, Bill 109, and Bill 23.
