The Quinte West Youth Centre received a $150,000 capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Originally awarded in September 2023, funding was made through the Committee for Innovative Thinking Youth (CITY).
The funds were used to help modernize the centre’s kitchen and flooring which in turn helps improve their “What’s Cooking” program.
The program helps to provide free meals and snacks to youth members as well as teach life lessons within the kitchen.
Upgrades will provide a cleaner space, allow for smoother operations, as well as commercial grade flooring that can handle the fast pace of youth.
Additionally, the renovations allow for more storage and larger appliances in the space to better meet public health regulations.
Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith was on hand with the team on Saturday to look at the renovations. Other local government officials were also in attendance.
According to a release from The Quinte West Youth Centre, they supported 202 youths and saw 3,194 youth visits in 2023.
