Prince Edward County is inviting written expressions of interest from private and not-for-profit entities to help redevelop the property of the former Queen Elizabeth School.
The county purchased the 1.8 hectare property from the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board for $1.375 million in April 2024.
There was hope from the municipality to receive funding from the federal government’s Housing Accelerator Fund to help purchase the property but the proposal was ultimately rejected, leading to the county asking for outside investment.
The following objectives for redevelopment were laid out by the County:
- Provide as many affordable housing units as possible, with affordability as defined in the County’s Municipal Housing Project Facilities By-Law
- Provide up to 37,000 square feet of rental space for identified community service agencies at reasonable rates and with extended lease agreements
- Allow the municipality to recoup its investment in the property (approximately $1.5 million) within calendar year 2024
- Be positioned to move forward with the redevelopment as quickly as possible
The deadline to submit an EOI is Friday, July 19 at 4:30 p.m.
The EOI document can be found at the County’s website.
County council will consider the EOIs at a special Committee of the Whole meeting on Wednesday, August 7.
