Despite the rain, parents and children crowded the Children’s Safety Village for their annual bike helmet giveaway on Saturday, where over 160 helmets were distributed to local children.
Experts from the Brain Injury Association Quinte District, Doug’s Bicycles, and the Ministry of Transportation were present to ensure every helmet fit the receiving child properly, to protect them while riding or skating.
“It is really incredible what all the people who volunteered to be here are doing for young people in our community and keeping them safe when they are riding and out and about,” said Children’s Safety Village Executive Director Bill Glisky.”We are so honoured to be able to provide a safe, fun and welcoming place where these amazing people can provide this important public service.”
A second bike helmet giveaway is planned for Canada Day at West Zwick’s Park, as part of the Kids Bike Rodeo, at 12 noon.
