A new 85-unit subdivision project in Hallowell has been delayed as the decision on a zoning application has been deferred to a future meeting.
Prince Edward County planning committee deferred the decision on the zoning request for the 5.49 hectare property at the end of Fawcett Avenue, during Wednesday’s committee meeting.
The subdivision plans contain 31 detached homes, with an additional 54 townhouse units.
Close to a dozen residents spoke about the development, raising concerns about increased traffic and heavy construction equipment making the local roads unsafe, and environmental concerns due to the loss of natural woodland including butternut trees.
The zoning request was deferred to a future meeting of the committee, giving the developer and municipal staff a chance to address the presented concerns of local residents.
