In cooperation with the United Way Hastings & Prince Edward the mayor of Belleville has issued a fundraising challenge to the community.
Despite the city’s commitment of $4.4 million to build The Bridge, an integrated services hub serving the homeless and vulnerable at the former Banquet Centre building, organizers still need another $250,000.
Mayor Neil Ellis says homelessness is hard on everyone in the community and his Mayor’s Challenge is meant to bridge the funding gap.
Several social service organizations will be involved in the hub.
They are the Belleville Quinte West Community Health Centre, John Howard Society, Enrichment Centre for Mental Health, Canadian Mental Health Association HPE, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health, United Way Hastings & Prince Edward, and Grace Inn Shelter.
