An incident last year in Quinte West has led to a temporary demotion for a Durham Region Police Service officer.
According to Durham Radio News, Quinte West OPP were investigating a collision on Frankford Road on September 8, 2023 when an officer was struck on the hand by a passing vehicle.
The person driving the vehicle was Durham Region First Class Constable Paul Twiddy.
Twiddy had been drinking and failed a breath test and later pleaded guilty to driving while having an alcohol concentration above 80.
Charges of impaired driving and dangerous driving were withdrawn.
The Durham Region Police Service held a misconduct hearing last month and on June 4 ruled that Twiddy would be demoted to Second Class Constable for one year.
Twiddy had a good record previously in his 18 years as an officer.
