The Hastings/Quinte Emergency Service Committee has approved a recommendation to County Council that a decommissioned ambulance be donated to Habitat for Humanity – Prince Edward-Hastings.
The charity is asking Hastings County to consider the donation to help the organization expand its current operations to support those in need of critical home repairs.
It would also help support their furniture delivery program in Trenton that helps support seniors who do not have the financial needs to have the items delivered.
Paramedics do not anticipate having the decommissioned ambulance available until late 2024 due to shipping delays.
Financial impact to the budget would be missing out on a potential $20,000 if the ambulance were sold at auction.
In a report, it states that the projected revenues from the sales of this ambulance and four others scheduled for replacement in 2024 likely won’t be realized regardless of this decision.
Council will look at the recommendation at a future meeting.
