Quinte News has learned of an assault that took place at Warkworth Institution that led to two inmates being sent to hospital on Monday.
OPP say two inmates suffered serious injuries from edged weapons with one of the victims being transported to hospital by ORNGE Air to a trauma centre.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) tells Quinte News that one of the inmates has since returned to the institution while the other remains in hospital in stable condition.
CSC says the assailants have been identified and that appropriate actions have been taken.
No staff members were injured in the incident.
Due to the Privacy Act, CSC says it is not able to disclose personal information regarding an offender, including their location.
Ontario Provincial Police say the institution has been secured, and the investigation is ongoing.
