Grade 3 and 4 teacher, Angela Burr, of Madoc Township Public School won a Certificate of Achievement in the 2024 Prime Minister’s Awards.
Burr teaches mathematics, language, social studies, science, physical education and the arts.
Some of the achievements listed are building a greenhouse in the classroom and later having the class work with a local farmer to move the plants into his garden, and bringing her class to a local municipal meeting to ask for support to organize a garbage clean-up in the township to teach students about how litter can harm the environment and wildlife.
According to a description on the government’s website, Burr’s approach to teaching includes “inclusivity, patience and the ability to cultivate and grow students’ natural curiosity.”
A full breakdown of her accomplishments and teaching approach can be found at the Government of Canada’s website.
