Belleville police responded to 200 calls for service from 5 a.m. on June 7, 2024 to 5 a.m. on June 10, 2024.
Life time suspended driver charged
On June 7, 2024 at 3:27 p.m., a member of the Belleville Police Traffic Safety Unit was patrolling on Pinnacle St. with a cruiser equipped with an Automated Licence Plate Recognition System when a notification was received for an unattached plate. The officer conducted a vehicle stop and the driver, a 51-year-old man from Shannonville was found to have multiple lifetime driving bans which stemmed from previous convictions for impaired driving and prohibited driving. As a result, the male was charged with driving while suspended and use plate not authorized. He was issued a summons for a traffic court date in July. Further, a 55-year-old female, the owner of the vehicle was charged with permitting operation of a motor vehicle without insurance and will also be attending court in July. The vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
Prohibited driving and drug charges for a 21-year-old Belleville man
On June 7, 2024 at 7 p.m., Belleville police were monitoring the speed of traffic on Cannifton Rd. An officer stopped a vehicle which was travelling in excess of the posted speed limit. A query of the driver revealed that he was criminally prohibited from driving, as well as a suspended driver. As a result, the male was arrested and transported to the Belleville Police Service. During a search of the male, a large amount of cocaine was discovered. As a result, 21-year-old Justin Smith of Belleville was charged with driving while prohibited, possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, driving while suspended and speeding. He was released with a court date in July.
Impaired Driving
On June 9, 2024 at 3:18 p.m., Belleville police responded to the area of Dundas Street East and Pinnacle Street for a report of an impaired driver. The vehicle was located on George Street where officers initiated a traffic stop. As a result of the roadside investigation, 47-year-old Jason Coveney of Belleville, was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He was transported to the Belleville Police Service to continue the investigation. At the conclusion of the investigation, Coveney was charged with impaired driving and over 80. He was released on an undertaking with a court date in July.
Fail to comply with undertaking
On June 9, 2024 at 5:20 p.m., Belleville police responded to a residence on Front Street regarding a disturbance. Upon arrival, police learned that a male and a female, both of Belleville were in a verbal argument. Further, the involved male was on court-ordered conditions stemming from a previous incident involving the same female. As a result, police arrested and charged the 57-year-old Belleville man with two counts of failing to comply with conditions of his undertaking. He was held for a bail hearing.
Assault and failing to comply with Probation Order
On June 9, 2024 at 5:48 p.m., Belleville police responded to a report of an assault in the area of Church Street and Bridge Street East. Police attended and learned that 43-year-old Tyler Branscombe of no fixed address assaulted another male by punching him in the face. The victim did not require medical attention. As a result, Branscombe was arrested and charged with assault and failing to comply with his probation order. He was released on an undertaking with a court date in July.
