Twenty-seven teams will participate in this weekend’s Bay of Quinte Relay for Life for the Canadian Cancer Society.
The event will be held Saturday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Trenton High School.
Volunteer Director Karen White says they’re well on their way to reaching their $64,000 fundraising goal, having already raised about $55,000.
This year’s theme is ‘Move and be Moved” which White calls very fitting as there will be several moving moments.
“The lap of hope by the survivors, just shortly after the opening ceremony and then of course at dusk we have our luminary ceremony where we light luminaries in honour of those that are being celebrated because they’re living with and beyond cancer and of course we remember those that we have lost to cancer.”
White, who participates in memory of her husband and brother who she lost to cancer, says there will be plenty going on through the day, including entertainment, food trucks and more.
Funds raised go to the Canadian Cancer Society and local support programs for those diagnosed with cancer.
This is the third year for the amalgamated Bay of Quinte Relay for Life, combining previous separate events in Belleville, Quinte West, Brighton and Prince Edward County.
White says donations are being encouraged online as the event is making a move towards going cashless, however there will be opportunities to donate at the event on Saturday as well.
