Hastings Prince Edward Public Health outlined how it is showing support for the 2SLGBTQI+ community as Pride Month gets underway.
During the Report of the Medical Officer of Health to the Board of Health on Wednesday, Dr. Ethan Toumishey says the health unit is encouraging staff to consider how they serve the 2SLGBTQI+ population and their ability to increase capacity to help provide more inclusive services.
The health unit says it provides inclusive services to gender-diverse new parents, inspect businesses owned and operated by gay and lesbian community members, support queer and questioning youth in schools and other services.
Dr. Toumishey outlined some of those specific services.
“From our view, all the programs that are being delivered from public health are taking that inclusive- and equity-seeking approach, so that speaks to client service standards,” Dr. Toumishey tells Quinte News.
“Particularly we are operating programs, health focused programs within school settings, sexual health clinics and services, as being examples that would be directly affecting (the community) but this would be wide-ranging.”
Representatives of the health unit will be in attendance at Pride in the Park on June 8 in Belleville to raise awareness about its programs.
