Work on a new master plan to guide Belleville’s Fire and Emergency Services Department is underway and the public is invited to provide input at a series of public information sessions.
The consultant’s Fire Master Plan has 25 recommendations including closing the old Station 2 on West Moira Street and building a new one in the area of Sidney and College streets to provide better response to new developments in both the western and northern parts of the city.
The plan also suggests Station 4 on Harmony Road in the Gerry Masterson Community Centre is dysfunctional and needs to be evaluated for its usefulness.
As well, the plan calls for more manpower and more full-time staffing in what are now rural areas.
The first of three public meetings will be held Thursday June 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fire Station # 1 at Station and Bettes streets.
After that, meetings will be held June 11 at Fire Station # 4 on Harmony Road and on June 13 at Fire Station # 3 at 4867 Old Highway 2.
Those meetings will run from 6 to 8 p.m. as well.
