Prince Edward County Council has formally approved a by law to purchase the former Queen Elizabeth School property in Picton.
The approval came during Tuesday’s council meeting, authorizing the purchase for $1,375,000.
The purchase is the next step in constructing a long-awaited social services hub and affordable housing project in Picton ward.
The future of the project was put into question when a bid for federal funding through the Housing Accelerator Fund was rejected. Despite not securing the funding, municipal staff recommended moving forward with the purchase and seeking third party partnerships to complete the project.
