The SHBL will be celebrating its 91st consecutive season in 2024 with the season opener seeing the Bain Excavating Rockies vs Uens Pole Line on Tuesday May 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Jim Uens Field in Melrose.
These two teams have faced each other in the Championship Series for the past three straight years.
This season the league will have nine teams vying for the Thornton Portt Championship Trophy.
Teams competing this year include Bain Excavating Rockies, Leighton Electric Mudhens, Maclan Designs, Melrose Farrell Excavating Shamrocks, Parkhurst Tripps Pirates, Read McGuinness Water Solutions Young Guns, Tyendinaga Cardinals, Uens Pole Line and the expansion Trenton Monarchs.
This year will see the league increase to nine teams for the first time since the 2018 campaign.
Teams will play a 16-game regular season with the top eight teams making the playoffs.
Playoffs will be a two out of three game series in the first round, three out of five game series in the semi-finals and four out of seven in the championship final.
The 2024 regular season will include the 4th Annual Cole Mcfarlane Memorial Game between Read and Melrose on Father’s Day and the 3rd Annual John Bat Masterson Memorial Game between Uens and the Mudhens later in the season.
