Belleville police responded to 76 calls for service over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. on May 8, 2024 to 5 a.m. on May 9, 2024.
Child Luring investigation leads to charges
On May 7, 2024 as a result of a child luring investigation conducted by Belleville Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Division, a 31-year-old male from Belleville was arrested and charged with one count of luring a person under sixteen years of age and one count of exposure to a person under sixteen years of age. The male was held for a bail hearing. Belleville Police Service will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the youth victim.
Impaired Driving – Arrest
On May 9, 2024 at 12:03 a.m., Belleville police responded to the area of North Front Street for a report of an impaired driver. It was reported that the driver was travelling at excessive speeds and swerving in and out of lanes. Police located the suspect vehicle just north of the city and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, police formed the grounds that the male driver was impaired by alcohol. Subsequently, the driver was arrested and transported to the Belleville Police Service to continue the investigation. At the conclusion of the investigation, 34-year-old Jamie Stevens of no fixed address was charged with impaired driving and over 80. Stevens was released on an undertaking with a court date in June.
Arrested on Warrants
On May 8, 2024 at 8:05 p.m., a neighbouring police agency arrested a 34-year-old female who was wanted on an endorsed arrest warrant held by the Belleville Police Service. The female was transported to the Belleville Police Service where she was released on an undertaking for one count of domestic assault and two counts of fail to attend court. She was given a court date in June. The name of the female is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim in the domestic assault.
