Every single day, local students arrive to school hungry. Students are arriving hungry for a variety of reasons – food insecurity, rushed mornings, long bus rides, etc.
Regardless of the reason, the goal at The Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation is to ensure that children and youth in Hastings and Prince Edward counties have what they need to succeed. One way we do this is through the Food for Learning programs because when students eat better, they can learn better.
“Currently, there is a Food for Learning program in 69 local schools/alternate learning spaces to ensure that students are not facing their day hungry. The need and impact of the local Food for Learning program speaks for itself” says Vicky Struthers, Program Coordinator.
- Every school day we feed an average of over 7,000 students.
- Last year, we served 1.4 million meals and snacks to students.
- 766 volunteers gave over 20,000 hours to ensure students were fed.
- Each week approximately $20,000 is spent on food to ensure that students aren’t hungry.
To help raise fund for the Food for Learning program Food for Learning is throwing a party – a TGIF 80s Neon Party on Friday May 10, 2024, at The Grand, in Belleville ON. The evening will include;
- An outstanding silent auction.
- A total throwback to an 80s Neon Glow Dance Party.
