It was a long process but Stirling-Rawdon council has officially passed its 2024 budget.
Taxpayers will pay an extra 12.6% in local taxes this year.
Mayor of Stirling-Rawdon Bob Mullin says inflation was one factor in the higher than usual tax hike but also that a lack of provincial government support for basic infrastructure is a continuing problem, especially the lack of money for the former Highway 14.
“We’re spending millions of dollars trying to maintain a road that’s a provincial highway with a tax base of 5,000 people. It just doesn’t make sense.”
The increase translates to about $40 a month more in local taxes on a home worth around $260,000.
