Quinte West is considering inviting tourists to take a seat at a new tourist attraction – a giant Adirondack-style chair.
During Thursday’s Development, Tourism, and Special Events advisory committee meeting, councillors received a report from municipal staff on the viability of a giant chair as a tourist attraction. The chair was presented as both an art installation and a photo opportunity for tourists, and would be decorated with the city’s branding.
The report highlights several considerations for installing the chair, including providing a concrete base for it to stand on, ongoing upkeep, accessibility of the site, and stairs for ease of access.
Two locations have been considered for the chair. One spot is at the RiverFront Square on the stage area, and the other is at the Quinte West Pop-ups in Centennial Park.
The chair is estimated to cost between $2,000 and $6,000 depending on if a foundation needs to be installed at the chosen site, the total size of the chair, and any built-in branding.
The committee voted to approve the giant chair project.
