(Garrett Pilon reaches around Marlies goaltender Dennis Hildeby to score series clinching goal)
The Belleville Senators have advanced to uncharted franchise territory.
Garrett Pilon scored at 2:17 of overtime to give the B-Sens a 4-3 win over the Toronto Marlies in the deciding game in their best-of-three Calder Cup preliminary series.
The Marlies rallied from a 3-1 second period deficit to force extra time.
Pilon, who won a Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears last season says in the post season, it’s about managing emotions.
Bokondji Imama, Josh Currie and Rourke Chartier also scored for Belleville.
Belleville head coach David Bell says his team didn’t fold after losing their two-goal lead.
Now it’s on to the best of five AHL North Division semi-final against Cleveland (Columbus Blue Jackets).
Although the Monsters finished first in the division in the regular season, only six points separated them and Belleville.
Games one and two will be played at the CAA Arena on Wednesday and Friday night before shifting to Cleveland for Games 3, 4 and 5 if necessary.
Tickets go on sale this morning (Monday) at 10.
The other North Division semi-final is already underway. The Rochester Americans and Syracuse Crunch are tied 1-1 in the best-of-five series.
