Brighton council has supported a memorandum of agreement with Belleville, Quinte West, and Hastings and Prince Edward counties that will serve to keep municipalities from offering incentives to doctors already under an incentive contract with another community.
Each of the neighbouring municipalities has its own physician recruitment program and while it’s up to any individual doctor to decide where he or she wants to work, the agreement stipulates they should not be eligible for another financial boost after having received one.
All CAOs of the five municipalities have agreed to the memorandum and each council is expected to approve it as a routine matter.
Along with Brighton, Belleville council has also signed off on the agreement.
Meantime, Brighton council has approved a sponsorship policy that could increase municipal revenues while at the same time offering organizations some positive publicity.
Mayor Brian Ostrander tells Quinte News the sponsorship policy focuses on community events.
“Our Concerts in the Park series, so if someone wanted to sponsor that for the summer, or you know one night, or what have you, that’s what this is about,” Mayor Ostrander explained.
“It’s not about the placement of permanent signage anywhere.”
Event sponsorships in Brighton are to be for no more than one year unless council agrees to an extension and all sponsorships must first be approved by council.
